Privacy Policy

The short version

Captionwave works on your own device. Your videos, captions and projects are never uploaded to us. There are no accounts and no sign-up. If you say yes to analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which features are used.

What stays on your device

• Your videos: processed in your browser and never sent to our servers.
• Your projects: project names, caption text and timing, style settings and a small preview picture are saved in your browser's storage on your device, so you can reopen them later. We cannot see them.
• Your settings: choices like language and style are remembered on your device.

Clearing your browser data, or deleting a project in your workspace, removes this information. Because it lives only on your device, we cannot recover it for you.

What we collect

We collect nothing about you unless you accept analytics cookies. If you accept, Google Analytics collects:

• pages you view and how you arrived (for example, from a search or a link);
• your device type, browser, screen size and language;
• your approximate location (country or city) worked out from your IP address, which is anonymised;
• simple actions in the app, such as "project created", "captions created" or "video exported", with basic details like video length or export format;
• cookie identifiers that tell visits apart.

What we never collect

• your videos or audio;
• the words in your captions or your file names;
• your name, email address or any account details (there are no accounts).

Cookies and your choice

Analytics cookies are only set if you choose Accept in the cookie message. Your choice is saved on your device. You can change it at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page. If you choose No thanks, Google Analytics is not loaded.

Other services involved

• Google Analytics (Google LLC), only if you accept. See Google's privacy policy. You can also use Google's opt-out browser add-on.
• Hosting: our website is delivered through Cloudflare, which processes technical request information (such as your IP address) to deliver pages securely.
• Speech and person-detection models: these small files are downloaded to your browser from our servers. If ours are unavailable, they may be downloaded from public sources such as Hugging Face or Google, which can then see your IP address like any website you visit. Your video is not sent to them.

How long we keep data

We keep analytics data for a limited period set in our Google Analytics settings. Everything else stays on your device for as long as you keep it there.

Your rights

You can say no to analytics, delete your projects, or clear your browser data at any time. If you are in the UK, EU or elsewhere with data protection rights, you can ask us about the analytics data we hold, or ask us to delete it, by emailing support@uqens.com.

Children

Captionwave is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
